Area Law Enforcement
Approximately 50 vehicles have been marked with what appears to be blood from a person in the German municipality of Hanau close to Frankfurt, according to law enforcement.
Vehicles, building surfaces and postal boxes were marked, occasionally with prohibited symbols, they announced in a statement.
Police say they were notified during the night on Wednesday evening, when a individual noticed that a car in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been covered with a red-colored fluid.
The substance had been drawn in the form of a Nazi symbol, they reported.
Law enforcement then found multiple other smeared automobiles and building exteriors in the surrounding area.
Swastikas are prohibited in Germany under laws banning the public exhibition of Nazi symbols.
Police say early analysis suggest the fluid was likely human bodily fluid.
"Currently there is no clue as to its origin; officials are presently not informed of any harm in connection with the occurrence," they added.
Local authorities said they were attempting "to solve the case" and have appealed to the residents for details.
A high-ranking official stated the incident made him without words and required to be resolved rapidly.
"This act affects the very heart of Hanau and revives the pain of the right-wing terrorist attack in 2020," he wrote on social media, recalling the killing of nine people by a assailant aiming at people of migrant background in February 2020.
